NEWSMother & Baby in UK market first with breastfeeding mother on cover
Mother & Baby Magazine will feature a breastfeeding mother on the cover - the first time a UK magazine has used such an image.
The August issue of the market-leading parenting title also features a comprehensive breastfeeding survey and goes on sale 9 July.
The survey was conducted by Mother & Baby magazine and online at Bauer Medias parenting site www.askamum.com and National Childbirth Trust website www.nct.org.uk. The issue will also include a six-page guide to breastfeeding, with a section dedicated to working through any problems mothers may have.
Miranda Levy, Editor of Mother & baby commented: "One of the most unique experiences of motherhood is the intimate joy of breastfeeding your newborn, but Mother & Babys research has confirmed what we always suspected, that Britain needs to be more friendly to breastfeeding mothers. We wanted to help challenge and change these perceptions with more positive images of breastfeeding women such as the gorgeous and groundbreaking picture on this month's front cover." Click Here
Follow-On Milk Adds Misleading Nutricia, which trades as both Cow and Gate and Milupa, was told to remove adverts which claimed they could "support" the immune system.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled the magazine adverts were misleading and such claims should not be made without "robust" evidence.
The World Health Organization recommends that babies are given breast milk exclusively for the first six months and after that it should continue alongside food until the age of two.
In one of the ads for Cow and Gate, a toddler is shown with text stating "still building their self-defences Cow and Gate follow-on milks support your baby's natural immune system".
As well as the immune system ruling, Milupa Aptamil was also told to stop claiming it was the "best" formula milk.
